The last time I posted a blog was last year. Some interesting events happened since the last time I blogged. One is that I have discovered FACEBOOK.
About a year ago, one of the student workers in the Office of Public Relations at East Texas Bpatist University said, "Mike, get with it. You need a Facebook page." The student guided me in how to do that. I did not know how to use it so I just did not do anything with it.
Over the ETBU Christmas break, I began playing with Facebook. Wow. I have connected back with friends from my college days, a roomate I had in college who left Huntsville to seek his fame in major market radio, guys I worked with at the various radio stations I have worked at like KOCA-KKTX in Kilgore as well as KSAM-KHUN in Huntsville, and many friends from my high schools days at Kilgore High School. I can't forget Al Albarran, one of my favorite Radio-TV professors at Sam Houston State University. He is now Dr. Albarran teaching at the University of North Texas.
One of the best comments I got from an old friend was, "It is good to see that we grew up to be responsible adults." I did not share with them the time I spilt a gallon of paint on the carpet of the first house Marianne and I bought while painting before we moved in. Or about the time I backed into my mother-in-law's car as I backed out of the garage.
I have been blessed to check on old friends and learn about their families and their careers.
Eddie Chiles of the now defunct Western Company had this as an advertsing slogan in the late 1970's and early 1980's, "If you don't have an oil well, get one." I would say today, "If you don't have a Facebook page, get one."
Why? You will be amazed what old friends you will find and they will find you as well. I wonder what happened to...... Got to go, I going searching on Facebook.
